After a period of several months in which cancellations averaged 3 a week, and trains generally turned up at or close to the appointed time, the past couple of weeks have been very poor for delays and cancellations, almost back to Autumn 2018 levels.
Some of it can be put down to separate weather-related events – flooding, a lightning strike west of Leeds, high temperatures and Toddbrook Dam. What has made it worse is that it’s the summer holidays when, just like the rest of us, more train drivers tend to go on holiday; and this has coincided with TPEs new rolling stock arriving and drivers needing to be trained on them.
