Consultation on RailPlan 7

Metro has today published its draft RailPlan 7, which

“seeks to build on the Local Transport Plan (LTP3) 2011-26 and the Yorkshire Rail Network Study by setting out Metro’s approach to deliver sustainable economic growth by improving the rail network in West Yorkshire.”

“RailPlan will be used to influence the key decision makers in Government and the rail industry to secure improvements to the network and deliver economic growth.”

It’s a substantial document (in its length if not the quality of its content), with something in the order of 150 pages including appendices.

There’s now a period for public consultation until 2nd July, which can be either on-line, by post or at public drop-in sessions, the nearest of which is at Huddersfield Town Hall on 6th June.

SMART will be preparing a detailed submission, but would also strongly encourage individuals to respond to the consultation.

Initial thoughts are that there’s very little in it to benefit the Colne Valley, and that large parts of the draft railplan were written by someone who didn’t realise that Slaithwaite and Marsden are in West Yorkshire and that both villages have railway stations.
