The new timetable changes are creating some fare anomalies.
Anyone travelling from Slaithwaite to Barnsley or Sheffield would, until the timetable change, have changed at Huddersfield on to a Penistone line train. Off-peak return cost to Sheffield £10.60.
National Rail’s journey planner now shows the quickest route as being via Leeds. The catch is that via Leeds it’s an anytime return at £20.90 (though the off-peak day return to Barnsley is valid via Leeds).
The lower fare to Sheffield is still available via the Penistone line, but it’s even slower than at present, with a 52′ connection at Huddersfield. Enter “via Denby Dale” in the journey planner to find the lower fare.
