{"id":1449,"date":"2017-11-29T10:33:27","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T10:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smart-rail.co.uk\/?p=1449"},"modified":"2017-11-29T10:33:27","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T10:33:27","slug":"keep-me-on-the-train","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smart-rail.co.uk\/?p=1449","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Keep me on the train!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"content__title\">Keep me on the train!<\/h1>\n<div class=\"content__body\">\n<div class=\"content__area content__area--auto\">\n<p><time class=\"stronger\" datetime=\"2017-10-26T09:35:33\">[Press release from Transport Focus, 26th October 2017]<\/time><\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep us on the train, even if it means a longer journey,\u201d passengers tell rail industry.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers prefer being kept on a train, for up to 40 minutes longer than usual, rather than switch to a bus when their journey is affected by planned engineering works.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the findings from independent watchdog Transport Focus\u2019s update of its 2012 research\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportfocus.org.uk\/research-publications\/publications\/rail-passengers-experiences-and-priorities-during-engineering-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Passenger priorities during disruption<\/em><\/a>, working with Great Western Railway and Northern.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Anthony Smith said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWelcome investment in the rail network does mean that there will be short-term disruption for some passengers. But there are ways of reducing its impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been some improvements in this area but we urge industry to continue putting passengers at the heart of planning for all new engineering works.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportfocus.org.uk\/research-publications\/publications\/rail-passengers-experiences-priorities-engineering-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Rail passengers\u2019 experiences and priorities during engineering works<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a0out today, concludes:<br \/>\n\u2022 there has been little change in passengers\u2019 perceptions and expectations of railway engineering works since 2012<br \/>\n\u2022 experiences during planned disruption remain varied<br \/>\n\u2022 many passengers are following the industry\u2019s \u2018Check before you travel\u2019 guidance and there is no clear evidence of passengers choosing simply not to travel at weekends.<\/p>\n<p>The watchdog will continue working with industry to push it to keep passengers at the heart of planning, and use all available measures to reduce the impact of works on their journeys.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.transportfocus.org.uk\/news-events-media\/news\/keep-me-on-the-train\/<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep me on the train!
