SMART is Slaithwaite &amp; Marsden Action on Rail Transport.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>We exist on a very small budget largely supplied by members. \u00a0But are active in trying to promote better services for local people trying to use the train services \u00a0for work and pleasure. Throughout 2018 &amp; 2019 we were very active in trying to undo the damage done by the unworkable May 2018 timetable and influencing the new timetable which was brought in from December 2019; and we continue to be active campaigning for full disabled access at Marsden and Slaithwaite stations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our current (2025) focus is on ensuring that the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) delivers tangible improvements in train services at Slaithwaite &amp; Marsden, specifically an increase to two trains per hour throughout the day. In relation to TRU we are also looking for both stations to be made fully accessible, and for the service pattern on completion to include through trains from Slaithwaite &amp; Marsden to Leeds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We also get involved in discussions about the level of disruption taking place during the construction period, and how that can be done in such a way as to mitigate the disruption to passengers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SMART facebook page at<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Slaithwaite-Marsden-Action-on-Rail-Transport\/443960538987391\">www.facebook.com\/pages\/Slaithwaite-Marsden-Action-on-Rail-Transport\/443960538987391<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s now a SMART facebook group at<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/groups\/356529627700721\/?bookmark_t=group\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/groups\/356529627700721\/?bookmark_t=group<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are SHRUG?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SHRUG are the Stalybridge to Huddersfield Rail Users Group. It is an umbrella group comprising the Mossley Rail Action Group (MORAG) (formerly Friends of Mossley Station), Greenfield Rail Action Group (GRAG) and Slaithwaite and Marsden Action on Rail Transport.<\/p>\n<p>The three groups came together under a single umbrella because we have shared interests and aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>SHRUG is affiliated to Railfuture,\u00a0the UK&#8217;s leading independent organisation campaigning for better rail services for passengers and freight.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.railfuture.org.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.railfuture.org.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The group has agreed six main priorities which it will press for, namely:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 cheaper fares across the county boundary,<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 half-hourly services,<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 disabled access on eastbound platforms,<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 easier connections to Manchester Airport,<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 improved rolling stock; and<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a station at Diggle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the SMART website.
