FOSLS

Friends of Slaithwaite Station

FOSLS (Friends of Slaithwaite Station) was a voluntary group that, at a time when the station was suffering from anti-social behaviour and vandalism, set out to promote the station as a pleasant and safe place for all rail passengers.

Part of this was to improve the station environment, and the planters and the L-shaped bench, with design input from young people in the village, were the result of this.

FOSLS has now disbanded but once the station has been rebuilt as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, SMART should be able to get involved in some of the same type of projects. Some of the examples to copy can be seen in some of the work done by station adoption groups on the Calder Valley line.
